Richard Petty is Senior Advisor with the Eno Center for Transportation. He is a former manager and Senior Education Specialist for the Regional Transportation District (RTD) in Denver where he was a key member of the team in designing, developing, and launching the RTD Leadership Academy as a key component of its Strategic Leadership Development Program. He also was instrumental in the design and creation of the Multi Agency Exchange Program (MAX), a leadership development program through which transportation agencies across the country collaboratively share best practices, develop peer agency networking, and participate in skills training classes.
Mr. Petty’s more than 40-year career includes 20 years of senior operational and training management spanning multiple industries including ophthalmology, telecommunications, wireless, and transportation. Prior to entering the transportation industry, he served as a creating member of and Lead Faculty member for both T-Mobile’s Coaching University and for their Training University for seven years. He was the only member of the organization to serve concurrently as a faculty member of both universities. As a Learning and Development Manager, Mr. Petty created highly successful and very popular career development, leadership development, training skills, and peer mentoring programs for different levels of the organization.
Mr. Petty grew up in a military family, living in nine states as well as overseas before attending the University of Washington in Seattle. Obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Sciences, he opted for a career in business rather than in research.
