Dr. H. Gene Hawkins, Jr., Ph.D., P.E. is an Associate Professor in the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering at Texas A&M University and holds a joint appointment as a Research Engineer with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute. He received his Ph.D., M.Eng., and B.S. in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University. Dr. Hawkins is a Registered Professional Engineer in Texas. He is a second-generation traffic engineer and has an extensive library of historically significant traffic engineering publications. He is a former chair of the Transportation Research Board’s Traffic Control Devices Committee and is the current Vice-Chair of Programs for the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
