1956 Federal-Aid Highway Act and Highway Revenue Act

Text of Public Law 627 of the 84th Congress. Title I of the law provided over $25 billion in contract authority over thirteen fiscal years to construct the Interstate Highway System. Title II of the law increased federal motor fuel taxes from 2 cents per gallon to 3 cents and created the Highway Trust Fund to hold the tax revenues.
