President Trump announced this week the nominations of two Federal Maritime Commission members, one of whom previously served on the Commission.

Daniel B. Maffei is nominated to serve the remainder of a five-year term expiring June 30, 2022. Mr. Maffei served as a member of the Commission from 2016-2018, nominated by then-President Obama to complete a term expiring in June 2017, and then completing his one-year holdover period ending June 2018.

Mr. Maffei previously served for two non-consecutive terms in Congress (2009-2011 and 2013-2015), representing Central New York including Syracuse. He was ousted by Republican John Kakto in the 2014 midterms.

L.E. Sola is nominated to serve the remainder of a five-year term expiring June 30, 2023. Mr. Sola currently serves on the Florida Board of Pilots Commissioners and presides over the probable cause panel for maritime incidents.

The two nominations bring up the total number of transportation-related nominees awaiting Senate confirmation to 14. The others include two assistant secretaries at DOT, administrators for the FTA and NHTSA, three Amtrak Board of Directors members, two Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority Board members, and three Surface Transportation Board members.
