Letter from the Guest Editor, Jannet Walker Ford

Dear Eno Transportation Weekly Readers,

It is an honor and a pleasure to be the guest editor for the 2023 “Women Take Over” edition of Eno Transportation Weekly.  This week’s ETW was written completely by women in honor of Women’s History Month, and it includes contributions from a diverse group of transportation professionals: entrepreneurs, leaders, and experts in our sector.

The future of transportation is complex and dynamic.  We are in a state of rapid growth and continual transformation, as historical funding opportunities and federal programs take root, as innovative technologies become the norm, as alternative fuel and energy sources become more available, as we contend with the lingering effects of COVID-19 and workforce shortages, and as we make vital policy decisions that will provide for safer, more sustainable, equitable, and accessible systems.

The voices being heard in our communities, in the federal government, and in the C-Suites of private companies, are growing louder… and those voices belong to us. Women are leading in policymaking, planning, construction, and engineering not only in the United States, but across North America and around the world.

This edition of ETW highlights some of those voices, focusing on transportation challenges and opportunities. The articles allow ETW readers to learn about research, micromobility, bus and transit, climate, rail, the intersection of health and transportation, and so much more.

We hope you enjoy this week’s edition. I thank Eno Transportation Center and WTS International for being such important champions of a diverse industry that betters us all.

Happy Women’s History Month!
