Transportation Workforce Planning and Development Strategies

This project synthesizes the current state of practice associated with the implementation of transportation workforce planning and development strategies. It investigates the current state of practice and identifies challenges, opportunities, and lessons learned through a literature review and a survey of state departments of transportation and Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) centers. In addition, the research team conducted case study interviews of representatives from state departments of transportation and LTAP centers with effective or innovative workforce development strategies.

Poster Session: Collaboration and Innovation in Performance-Based Metropolitan Planning, System Management, and Analysis

This session features cutting-edge research on innovative approaches to metropolitan transportation system planning, performance management, and analysis led by an international array of agencies and academics. Presenters will discuss examples of American MPO leadership in fostering integrated land use and transportation planning, collaborating across agencies to address megaregional concerns, and implementing performance based planning methods to address MAP-21 goals and requirements. The session also includes presentations of American, Chinese, and Turkish initiatives to model system performance impacts of freight and passenger traffic management strategies, automated vehicles, emergency evacuation, and post-disaster re-entry.
