Eno Announces 2022 Leadership Awards Recipients

October 11, 2022  | Michaela Boneva

The Eno Leadership Awards Reception brings together public, private, and nonprofit leaders from across the country to honor individuals and organizations who have contributed significantly to the field of transportation. In 2022, Eno is pleased to recognize the following individuals for their achievements:

Lillian Borrone will be honored with the Mineta Award for Lifetime Achievement in Transportation, which honors an individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership throughout their career in the transportation industry. Borrone has extensive experience in transportation, having served as the first woman Director of Ports for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, a political appointee to the U.S. Department of Transportation, a longtime Chair of Eno’s Board of Directors, and recently Co-Chair of the Eno Centennial Committee, to name a few. Borrone was also the first woman to lead the Transportation Research Board’s Executive Committee, and is the recipient of their 2023 Frank Turner Medal for Lifetime Achievement. Learn more about her trailblazing career and the changing role of women on Eno’s Living Legacies Podcast, part of our Centennial Celebrations.

Eno will give the Wilbur E. Smith Friend of Eno Award to Billy Terry, Executive Director of the National Transit Institute (NTI) in the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University. This award is given to honor an individual or organization who has demonstrated outstanding support to Eno. He has been a strong advocate for public transportation at the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), the District of Columbia Department of Transportation, and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). Terry participates every year in Eno’s leadership programs to offer his wisdom on leadership and career development and serves on Eno’s Board of Regents to support our professional development programs.

Jeffrey Gonneville, Deputy General Manager of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), will receive Eno’s Distinguished Alumni Award. This award honors an individual who, having graduated from an Eno professional development program, has demonstrated outstanding leadership throughout their career in the transportation industry. Gonneville has demonstrated notable accomplishments and has pursued these achievements on behalf of the public interest. Gonneville is also growing his legacy in transportation as an active participant in APTA. He has generously given of his time to mentor others and to speak with participants at Eno’s Transit Senior Executive Program.

The Martin Wachs Thought Leader Award will be presented to Sameer Sharma, Global GM (Smart Cities & Transportation) for Network & Edge Solutions at Intel. This award honors exemplary achievement in the field of transportation research, scholarship, and thought leadership. Indeed, Sharma is a thought leader and his work on Smart Cities and bridging technology and transportation is timely, impactful, and shapes innovation in the industry. Sharma’s work is focused on enhancing the daily quality of life for citizens while simultaneously promoting responsible practices to protect the environment. He currently serves on Eno’s Board of Advisors.

“We’re proud to announce this year’s leadership awards recipients, an incredibly influential group of people who continue to advance and impact the transportation industry,” says Robert Puentes, President and CEO of Eno.

You can join us to honor these leaders and their accomplishments at the 2022 Eno Leadership Awards Reception on January 11, 2023 from 6:00-9:00pm ET at the Hotel Kimpton Monaco in Washington, DC.
