Next week marks the launch of the annual week of infrastructure education and advocacy events (don’t call it Infrastructure Week). This year’s United for Infrastructure program focuses on how the United States should “rebuild better” as we slowly emerge from our public health and economic crises. Once again, Eno will play a part in the week’s events which this year, obviously, have gone virtual.

Tuesday, September 15, 1:00pm EDT: Robert Puentes will participate on a panel hosted by Squire Patton Boggs, What the Pandemic and the Next Election Could Mean for Infrastructure in 2021 and Beyond. The discussion will feature former Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Bill Shuster along with former Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus Joe Crowley. Wednesday, September 16, 1:15pm EDT: Eno and the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) co-host a webinar, Transportation Spending and Planning in the Time of COVID. It will discuss new approaches for understanding and addressing the challenges the public health crisis and economic recession bring to transportation funding and planning. It features Rodney Slater (Squire Patton Boggs and former U.S. Secretary of Transportation), Joshua Schank (Los Angeles Metro Office of Extraordinary Innovation), and the independent consultant Alan Pisarski. Thursday, September 17, 2:00pm EDT: Eno will host the webinar, Ballots for Buses: Local Option Transportation Sales Taxes in California. The webinar will review the history of these measures, present their major characteristics, their political implications, and examine how counties balance accountability to the voters against the need for flexibility to meet changing conditions. Friday, September 18, 12:00pm EDT: Robert Puentes will participate in a webinar hosted by United for Infrastructure, Future Proofing America’s Infrastructure for a Changing World. This event will focus on resilience—broadly defined—and what good policy and investments are needed to ensure our infrastructure is ready for whatever the next 50 years throws at it. Register HERE.

In addition to these infrastructure events, next week is also Eisenhower Week. The Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial will be formally unveiled in Washington on Friday, September 17. Appropriately kicking off “Ike Week,” Eno’s Jeff Davis speaks at the National Heritage Lecture: Eisenhower & Infrastructure on Monday, September 14 at 6:30pm EDT. Jeff will present his original and extensive research on how President Eisenhower worked with Congress to create a transportation system to move goods and people across the country. Other speakers include former U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and former Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration Michael Huerta. Register HERE.
