August 1, 2019 – The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation convened for a hearing on July 31 regarding the current status of positive train control (PTC) implementation and next steps. In this hearing, witnesses did little to instill confidence that railroads and commuter rail agencies will meet the December 2020 deadline for PTC implementation which was delayed from its initial 2018 deadline.

July 26, 2019 – The House Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials held a “Railroad Shippers Roundtable” on July 25, following up on the June 20 hearing. The various participants were in consensus regarding their most pressing issues, namely faulty communication with railroad companies and problematic demurrage and accessorial charges.

August 24, 2018 – This week, the Federal Railroad Administration announced the recipients of $203.7 million in fiscal year 2018 grants to railroads for the installation of positive train control (PTC) technology ahead of a looming December 31 deadline. At the same time, FRA released the PTC implementation progress reports of all railroads as of June 30, which showed most railroads making significant progress.
August 16, 2018 – Five years after labor disputes out West grinded operations at 29 ports to a halt, federal focus on freight transportation seems to be moving toward intermodal connectors and the infrastructure that moves freight out of the port and across the country.
August 1, 2018 – The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee approved by voice vote today several items including a bill to establish a new port improvement grant program, a bill to criminalize attacks on interstate passenger rail crews, and another nominee for a seat on the Surface Transportation Board.
July 27 2018 – This week, the House passed a mammoth defense bill that contains legislative provisions relating to civilian transit, rail, aviation and maritime transportation programs.
June 5, 2018 – Today, the U.S. Department of Transportation sent Congress a proposed list of 26 projects totaling $1.535 billion under the so-called INFRA grant program (called the FASTLANE grant program under the Obama Administration because its statutory acronym, NHSFP, is not easily pronounceable).
May 18, 2018 – During Infrastructure Week, two panels featuring freight experts and stakeholders emphasized the multimodal freight infrastructure needs across major U.S.
Infrastructure Week 2018 is next week, May 14-21, and Eno staff will participate in two events on infrastructure resiliency and freight transportation.
President Trump and many in Congress have placed a high priority on infrastructure investment.
